Dr Seuss’ “Lorax” first trailer is out

Interesting, the first Illumination’s “Lorax” trailer finally came out. You will probably find some visual similarities with “Horton hears a Who” as “Lorax” is also based on Dr Seuss’ illustrated books and Maurice Nobel’s interpretation in that 1972 short film.

Now “Lorax” seems to have a more lighted tone that the book and short film but it definitely looks much more serious than also Mac Guff produced “Despicable Me”. I hope it gets a good reception by the public. As noted by Sergio Pablos in that recent “Frame by Frame” interview, comedies are much safer to market and sell to investors and the wider audience.

Illumination is taking a gamble by adapting the long time seen controversial Lorax book to the screen, let’s see if the aura created by Despicable Me and soon coming Despicable Me 2 will help to propel “Lorax” and Mac Guff to the level of an other studio known to regularly take similar gambles, namely Pixar, and establishes Mac Guff as a new solid player in that feature animation top 5.

And here is the Maurice Noble’s art directed short film if you haven’t seen it yet.

I just found that very interesting interview of “Despicable Me” (DM)’s producer Christopher Meledandri. Some very familiar names popped up! Alright we knew that co-director Pierre Coffin was “Pat and Stan” creator but did you know that the original idea was from Sergio Pablos? Did you know that the character design had been handled by no less than Ratatouille character designer Carter Goodrich??? and yes “Lorax”, an other Dr Seuss book adapted for cinema release has finally been announced.

The movie has finally reached $145M after only 2 weeks by the way. No bad when you take in consideration that it is fighting for screens with Shrek 4 and Toy Story 3.

Here we go, they just released a new “Despicable Me” trailer. The previous three seemed completely disconnected but that new one is finally helping to understand what the movie is about.

Watching that new trailer the first time, I wasn’t too excited at the sight of the three kids but the “Does this count as annoying?” sold me. It is just hilarious!!!!

Yes “Despicable Me” looks exactly like the “Incredibles” or even “Astroboy” in term of rendering but the acting in some of the shots is soooo inspired and inspiring, I just can’t believe it.

“Does this count as annoying?” says the little girl. Where the hell did they get this from??? I have never seen a kid do that but I believe a kid could actually do it.

And that other “Now make them drink the milk” shot. Where is this coming from again!!! Man I am not too fussy and I don’t mind seeing the same kind of gags over and over in animated features but when you get pure gems like those two, you can only stand in awe and wish you came up with them! This is definitely the opposite of cliché.

Too bad we can’t get any behind the scenes. Universal should have a look at how Dreamworks is promoting “How to train your dragon” and learn from it instead of keeping everything secret.

Anyway this movie looks really funny and I can’t wait to see it!

“It is soooo fluffy!”
