Blocking from 2d to 3d

Nothing really new here. You are all subscribers to Jason Ryan’s newsletter and know his workflow very well. Personally I love it especially for broad animations or physical shots.

Here is one shot I planned using this technique with my favourite 2d digital software: TV Paint

  1. update. I currently don’t work like this anymore and instead go straight into Maya.

    Most rigs nowadays are really easy and fast to pose and by working this way you never run into the problem where your planning can’t be translated into the Maya camera because the proportions or camera angles are different.

    Some shots like close up facial are also quicker to animate straight into 3d unless you are a crazy good draughtsman.
