This said&#8230;. I never ever managed to see any pickers from BlueSky studios!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.olivier-ladeuix.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2020\/01\/Olaf-Frozen-picker.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.olivier-ladeuix.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2020\/01\/Olaf-Frozen-picker-470x152.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5143\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Olaf body and facial picker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Disney animation fans and especially animators, are very familiar with <strong>dAnimPicker<\/strong>, <strong>the Disney animation picker<\/strong>, a good looking and very functional picker with some really cool features (zoom and pan), similar to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"AnimSchool picker (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.animschool.com\/pickerInfo.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">AnimSchool picker<\/a> and the good old abxPicker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.olivier-ladeuix.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2020\/01\/Kristof-Frozen-close-up.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.olivier-ladeuix.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2020\/01\/Kristof-Frozen-close-up-470x249.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5145\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kristof Picker (Frozen)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The dAnimPicker has some great additional features like the pickwalk, to easily navigate from control to  control, and anchors, to quickly jump to predefined position like the face picker, or body picker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.olivier-ladeuix.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2020\/01\/Kristof-Frozen-1-470x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5147\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kristof and Anna facial and body pickers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see the interaction between the animator and the picker, 9:03 into the following video:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XiAra6zlQ-A\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XiAra6zlQ-A<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having never seen that sort of picker in past researches, I was really surprised when I came across two similar looking pickers: <strong>Locus <\/strong>and <strong>Character Toolkit Designer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.olivier-ladeuix.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2020\/01\/Locus-Logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5149\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After bumping on <strong>Locus<\/strong> through Pinterest with a totally unrelated research, I was finally able to track a video demo of the apparently <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.autodesk.com\/MAYA\/en\/Detail\/Index?id=3592773306488698851&amp;appLang=en&amp;os=Win64\">commercially available picker<\/a> from Korean based Locus Animation studios. (there are more demos on the Vimeo channel).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.olivier-ladeuix.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2020\/01\/9059cc551f4cbb77a201b04667864e01.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.olivier-ladeuix.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2020\/01\/9059cc551f4cbb77a201b04667864e01-470x264.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5150\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/129635296\">https:\/\/vimeo.com\/129635296<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The similarity with dAnimPicker is pretty striking but wait until you see <strong>Character Toolkit designer!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.olivier-ladeuix.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2020\/01\/Character-Toolkit-Designer-470x264.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5151\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> The resemblance is stricking right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am not sure if  ILM TD <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"voud Ashrafi (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/Ashrafi\" target=\"_blank\">Davoud Ashrafi<\/a><\/strong>, the creator of the tool, is the actual creator of the Disney picker or if he just got inspired by it as he keeps mentioning, but the demo on his Vimeo channel is fascinating. The creation part of the tool very exciting compared to other tools and I especially love the mirroring feature, this would have saved me a lot of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/127346586\">https:\/\/vimeo.com\/127346586<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s finish up this post with more related Disney behind the scenes videos and don&#8217;t skip the Wreck it Ralph videos where you can also see the body controls visible in the Maya viewport.
