If you watch them with a webbrowser like Google Chrome, the gamma doesn&#8217;t shift.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><del datetime=\"2011-09-23T00:36:18+00:00\">Some of you might have noticed a realllly annoying bug with Quicktime pro when outputting to H264. No matter what compression, the video looks &#8220;washed out&#8221; or covered by a white layer.<\/del><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">This problem seems to be due to the latest version of Quicktime pro that would assume the video you are importing has a Mac gamma (1.8) instead of the PC one (2.2).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">A trick has been running around consisting in tweaking the Blend and Straight alpha settings but the most picky of us realized that the blacks still weren&#8217;t as black as they should be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">I found what seems to be the solution in the looooong series of comment following Andrew Krammer&#8217;s original post with the above trick.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.videocopilot.net\/blog\/2008\/06\/fix-quicktime-gamma-shift\/\">http:\/\/www.videocopilot.net\/blog\/2008\/06\/fix-quicktime-gamma-shift\/<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">One of commentator is suggesting to fool Quicktime pro by first opening a Tiff picture then importing the video. This way Quicktime doesn&#8217;t apply that screwed up gamma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">1) Create a small (32\u00d732 pixels or so) tiff or bitmap \u2013 doesn&#8217;t matter what color, just make it 8bit and RGB<br \/>\n2) Open a new player and \u2018Open image sequence\u2019 and select the tiff\/bitmap. set the frame rate to whatever you\u2019re going to be working in<br \/>\n3) Open your desired quicktime in another player, \u2019select-all\u2019 and \u2018copy\u2019 the clip<br \/>\n4) Back in you \u2018tiff\/bitmap\u2019 movie hit \u2018add to movie\u2019 \u2013 this will add the video over the top of the tiff\/bitmap on a second video layer<br \/>\n5) Export using your desired codec<br \/>\nAll going well the gamma will match your original video very closely<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Thanks Andrew Stewart and Andrew Krammer<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">As a side note, I have a conspiracy theory on this but let&#8217;s not get into that \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/forums.creativecow.net\/thread\/8\/1027614\"><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">http:\/\/forums.creativecow.net\/thread\/8\/1027614<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[update] NONE OF THE TRICKS ARE WORKING but as I said it in the comments, there is nothing to worry about, it is only a problem with Quicktime when playing videos locally.
